Significant Time Loss in Locating Keys and Equipment

Managing keys and tools manually posed significant challenges for the large craft business. In summary, Gaerte faced three core issues:

  1. Time Loss: The search for keys and tools consumed valuable work hours. Employees spent considerable time on the phone trying to locate assets.

  2. Lack of Practicality: Previous attempts with lists and numbering systems failed in daily operations. Documentation was too time-consuming, and the systems were too complicated for the fast-paced work environment.

  3. Lack of Transparency: When assets were lost, tracking it was impossible. It was unclear who had last used the keys or tools.

These challenges called for an automated solution that could be quickly deployed without requiring extensive training.

The Solution

RFID Technology Combined with Low-Code Software

Heisenware's implemented RFID solution has made asset management incredibly simple: At the warehouse exit, an antenna automatically records which technician takes which keys or tools. A quick tap on the touch display confirms the action. For on-site handovers, a mobile app is available. To maintain full oversight, there is a central dashboard for management. The individual applications run as Progressive Web Apps on all devices and can be easily expanded as needed.

The Implementation

Dedicated User Interfaces for Each Process

The implementation was carried out in phases without disrupting daily operations. The first step involved setting up the RFID infrastructure: a Zebra antenna with a touch display at the warehouse exit, as well as a small table antenna for the initial assignment of tags. Next, all keys and equipment were equipped with RFID tags and registered in the system.

The software development using the Heisenware low-code platform allowed for quick and flexible execution. Three central applications were created: an administration interface for assigning tags, a specially optimized app for the touch display at the warehouse, and a mobile app for on-site handovers. All apps are connected to a central PostgreSQL database. The PWA technology ensures compatibility across both stationary and mobile devices.
